In 20 years of editing I’ve worked on more than 150 fiction and educational titles for publication around the world. I’ve worked with many wonderful Australian and UK authors – some of whom I met as first-time authors and who have become highly accomplished and award-winning writers over the years of our collaboration.

For 10 years I was senior editor at International Language Teaching Services, a developer of English language teaching materials for publishers in over 25 countries. I worked on a wide range of publications, including middle grade and Young Adult graded fiction, abridged classics, science reading comprehension, grammar workbooks and primary reading and listening comprehension.

I now work freelance both for publishing companies and for independent writers, primarily in the areas of fiction and educational materials.

I delight in discovering a new story and coming on board to act as an advocate for the future reader, looking for ways to build up the good things, iron out weaknesses and make the work “sing”.

Based in Sydney, Australia, I live and work on Gadigal–Wangal Land.

My qualifications

I’m an Accredited Editor with the Institute of Professional Editors, the professional association for Australian and New Zealand editors. I have contributed to the IPEd’s Accreditation Scheme as a member of its exam-writing team since 2014. I comply with IPEd’s Code of Ethics.

I hold an MA in Communication and Cultural Studies.

Technology

I use editing technology including spellcheck and the consistency-checking software PerfectIt, but I don’t use AI to edit. And I do not edit manuscripts that have been generated by AI – I’m more interested in helping humans do the work of truly original writing!
